Lore, origin and why it matters

The police station that was a museum

The Raccoon Police Department's headquarters occupies a former art museum. Its grand hall, statues and unusual layout survive the conversion, giving Resident Evil 2 its distinctive mix of civic building and puzzle-filled labyrinth.

A refuge under siege

Leon and Claire reach the station expecting safety as Raccoon City falls to the outbreak. Barricades and surviving officers offer only fragile protection; the R.P.D. badge recalls a place where everyday policing gives way to a desperate fight to escape.
