Lore, origin and why it matters

The Team That Entered the Mansion

S.T.A.R.S. stands for Special Tactics and Rescue Service, the Raccoon Police Department's specialist unit. In the original Resident Evil, Alpha Team searches the Arklay Mountains for the missing Bravo Team. Their refuge from attacking creatures becomes the Spencer Mansion, where Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield uncover Umbrella's experiments.

Survivors Who Became Targets

The survivors' knowledge makes them dangerous to Umbrella. Resident Evil 3 turns that connection into a direct threat: Nemesis is sent to eliminate S.T.A.R.S. members. The unit's insignia recalls both the investigation that started the series and the cost of learning the truth.
