Behind the find
Raccoon City is the midwestern community where Umbrella's influence and secret research meet everyday life. After the isolated mansion incident, Resident Evil 2 and 3 show the disaster reaching streets, shops, a hospital and the police station.
A welcome sign recalls the ordinary city that Leon and Claire expected to enter. Paired with Umbrella's emblem, it points to the contradiction behind the setting: a prosperous community whose largest corporate presence also helped create the catastrophe.
