Lore, origin and why it matters

Resident Evil's Unlikely Survivor

Tofu is the playable block of bean curd from Resident Evil 2's bonus challenge, The Tofu Survivor. The original version follows HUNK's escape route with a knife instead of a soldier's arsenal. Its absurd appearance turns a demanding survival test into one of the series' most memorable jokes.

The Joke Returns in the Remake

Resident Evil 2's remake brings Tofu back with additional food-themed variants. The visual gag does not make the escape gentle: managing attacks and surviving grabs still demand careful movement. It is a reminder that Resident Evil has always made room for humor beside its horror.
